Skincare breakfast — it’s the latest woo woo beauty ‘cure’ trending on TikTok
Have you heard that breakfast is the primary food in the entire day? Make sure to nourish your skin, too according to the so-called beauty experts on TikTok. Self-care influencers on the wildly popular social media app are now advocating a "skincare breakfast," a breakfast routine designed to ensure a flawless complexion.
Alice Sun is just one creator who shares skin-friendly tips for supping to her followers, ranging from healthy skin mocktails to moisturized tofu salads as well as a variety of beneficial broths.
Sun recently told her followers, which numbered more than 340,000, she had created the perfect skincare breakfast that consisted of a menu consisting of salmon, kimchi miso broth, rice and cucumbers.
The Chinese medical healing enthusiast who recently relocated between New York to Los Angeles said that her "gut-friendly," "hydrating" food had " made a huge difference" for her sensitive, dry skin.a
Isabelle Lux, who boasts more than 514,000 followers on Instagram, explained the details of her " glowing skin breakfast," consisting of the coconut-based yogurt, pumpkin and Chia seeds, berries, and probiotics.
Another maker, Millie Mae swears by her breakfast oatmeal bowls in order to keep her skin free of acne.
However, it is Dr. Kellyann Petrucci, a nutritionist and best-selling author she said that eating healthy can be "not the only factor" to have healthier skin.
"There is a connection to the gut health, particularly your microbiome, as well as the overall health that your skin is in. If you're experiencing the dreaded skin issues which aren't responding to creams or lotions taking a look inward is beneficial. Healing your digestive tract can be the very first thing to do." she explained to The Post, adding that collagen powder, bone broth and the fiber source are among her "favorite food items" to heal the gut.
Petrucci advises acne sufferers to beware of "sugary, high-carb foods," since they're the cause of a spike in blood sugar.
"Sugar is, in turn, boosts your production of AGEs which is a reference to advanced glycation-related end products. These "stiffen" collagen and elastin, which damages the complexion and rendering it more difficult to heal," she explained. "The result: You look years older than you are."
As delicious as it sounds however, these tips for skin don't necessarily have the backing of facts experts claim.
"There is no evidence in the science to support the use of any specific food to benefit skin," dermatologist with board certification Dr. Natalia Spierings told Metro.
Consuming too much processed food can adversely affect your complexion, Spierings said there is no magic cure for skin.
"But there is no specific food or thing someone can do to improve their skin 'from within' - aside from stop smoking if you smoke," Spierings declared.
The idea for a breakfast with skincare seems to have been initiated by a different edible beauty fashion on TikTok with influencers claiming that taking a single vitamin could help prevent the appearance of blemishes.
