Denim Maxi Skeptic? Let These Celebrities Show You the Light

At the age of seven my mom purchased me a dark-washed, glitter-dusted maxi dress purchased from The Children's Place but thank goodness for her I completely disliked the skirt. Then she gave up her dream of this skirt but not without having me wear it for a single occasion. I've been a denim maxi-hater since.

Skeptic

However, since my childhood resentments aren't dictating fashion trends in 2023, the maxi-length denim skirt appears to be making a huge comeback. Burberry, Givenchy, MM6 Maison Margiela, Balenciaga, Coach as well as Blumarine have all shown versions of the style on the runway. Vogue writer Mattie Kahn described this trend of the longer length of a denim hemline as "Torah-teacher aesthetic." (Even from my restricted Jewish education I'm inclined towards agreeing with her.) Although the skirt is ideal for more elegant attire, a lot of women are still showing their skin. Luckily, we can take a look at the stars for tips on what to wear with each version of this controversial trend.

A longer hemline is a fantastic alternative to plunging necklines such as Glass Onion's Madelyn Cline who wore an Tommy Hilfiger outfit earlier this year. Like Gigi Hadid who wore a crop top that allowed her to showcase her abs but still kept her covered at the bottom. If you're looking to flaunt your legs but do not want to feel cramped in a tube of denim, think about a skirt that has an slit like Nicky Hilton, who has been seen strutting all over New York in her maxi. To prove the versatility of the skirt, Hilton has already worn it two times in the last week.

Denim maxis are an option for those people who are low maintenance, and like the idea of jeans but aren't sure if they're comfortable wearing pants. (Denim without a wedgie can be an extremely attractive option.) Although the idea of a denim maxi might seem intimidating from a style viewpoint, the celebs below sport the look in a way that has me, who's a lifetime skeptic and skeptic, want to try them.
